I was out doing my evening walk/jog around the yard yesterday evening and when I started down the hill, right dead center of my path was a HUGE snake!!  I screamed bloody murder - nobody heard me - and tore into the house to get help.  Tim went and got the shovel and came to check him out.  I'm screaming he's to big to kill with a shovel, I'll go get the gun.

By the time I got out with the gun, Tim had already taken care of it with the shovel and was tossing it in the river.  But that sucker was huge.  No idea what kind it was, don't care what kind it was.   Daddy always said a good snake is a dead snake and I always took my Daddy's advice to heart!

I'm terrified of snakes.  I can't bring myself to look at them in cages.  I can't even look at pictures of them.  I hate 'em....especially when they are over six feet long like that one was!!

I'm with you, deathly afraid of snakes. Luckily we have 2, if not 3 roadrunners out here and they love snakes.

If the snake is in the water, its a water mocasin, on the ground its a rattler or copperhead. Nuff said!

Ditto on this...ewwwwww

I was involved with the Young Marines here in OKC. So the Marines decided they wanted to play war games, and was able to get us a place to stay at Ft. Sill, so the kids and the Marines and the Volunteers got into groups and went to the hills/mountains what ever you want to call them at FT. SILL and here I am walking with a couple of Marines in this fields to find a place to hide. I heard this noise like a rattling, and had already been told in these hills had snakes to be careful and watch for them, so I was already scared, and when I heard that noise I took off running and screaming across that field. Now mind ya at that time I weighed 296 pounds. Any way one of the Marines said, and was laughing said damn Donna I didnt know you could run that fast! He said about the time I took off running the rattler took a strike at me...wasnt funny to me then, but I could just see the look on his face when I took off running across that field screaming....LMAO its funny to me now!

Well, hubby said he hated to kill him for that very reason....but he should have stayed in the neighbors yard if he wanted to continue to feast on vermin.

That's my theme song Ed!!  But I'm not nearly as afraid of spiders as I am snakes.  I'll hold a baby spider ... I won't even hold a worm that looks simlar to a snake!

I'm the other way around.........my dogs kill snakes and leave them on the back patio for me. ............I have already killed 3 tarantula's this year......(one of them was about 6 inches across).............

How ironical a snake story on the forum today because as I was driving to work today (l live out in the country), I looked up and there is a big bird, I don't know a crow or vulture, flying above my line of view with a snake hanging from it's beak.  Darn snake must have been 3 foot long.  Was just weird to see that.

Spirit - I walk the hills on Old Granbury Road, carrying my water, my phone, and a shortened closet pole for a stick.  The stick is for stray dogs.  Now i have something else to think about...[chills]  The worst i've run into so far was a slow @$$ turtle lol!

I'm with Spirit. The only good snake is a dead snake.   I deliver fuel to ranchers

out here in West Texas and constantly on the look out for rattlers. I've had my share

of close calls. Around barns and walking over cattle gaurds to open gates are the worst

areas for snake bite. Hopefully, I can continue to get them before they get me.

Spirit, I'm going to take you to that "Snake Farm" near New Braunfels to be "desensitized."  Wonderful place. Thousands and thousands of snakes. Every species in the world. Cobras, black mambas, green mambas, giant anacondas, pythons, you name it.  Takes hours to see them all. And they have a big rattlesnake pit with several hundred rattlesnakes in it.  You can just think of some people you'd like to throw in there.... Wink

Don't you know it!!!

When I was 12 we went to OKC for 2 wseks because of Daddy's job.  To pass time, Momma and I went to the zoo.  She went through the snake house, but I waited outside.  She came out and begged me to go in with her.  She said they had the biggest snake she had ever seen in her life - said it was as big around as she was.  I had no desire to see it.  My dreams were haunted by little snakes that terrified me in my sleep....I didn't want no giant sized sucker taking their place.   She still talks about how big that snake was and tells me I should have gone in and looked at it ... and I still say Thanks, but no thanks.  I don't regret my decision one iota!!

I am amazed by snakes! As long as they aren't tryin to get in my house or mess with me or mine, I'll sit and watch them.

I'll be the first to admit, though, that even the non-poisonous ones are deadly to me. When they end up too close and surprose me, I'll end up killing myself trying to get away from them.

Guess I make a better admirer from afar!
