Does anyone remember the street rod that did the burn out in Idaho in a town parade and lost control and ran over 24 people dragging 1 under the car for over 100 yds? Well I checked into it a little, did you know since the town had let him do the burn out in the past, the town had to accept partal responsability for the damages.
If a 18yr old looses control on the parade route while doing a burnout and launches a bike into the crowd this could be a big enough financial hit to fold the rally.
It would be a safe alternative to have everyone at registration to sign a scanable piece of paper saying anyone doing a burnout outside of the burnout pit will be thrown out of the rally.
Now what you also need is a cyclone fence cage complete with a gate and a cyclone fence ceiling on top burnout cage. Believe me at Full throttle in Sturgis this thing is packed standing room only.
You accomplish 3 things here: #1 take an unsafe practice and cage it.
#2 take a MAJOR law suit threat away.
#3 take the stinking burned rubber smell and flying rocks off the parade route.

Sounds like an excellent idea. I would love to see a burnout pit instead of rocks flying on the parade route.

All the burn out pits i have seen, tied the bike down like they do on the Dyno drags so this would help keep it in place,
chain link to keep spectators back, tied down bike to keep it out of the spectators.
Last one I watched winner got a new tire from the sponser of the burnout contest. ( pretty smart as he got to sell the others fresh rubber to get home on)

I have seen a couple of different kinds, The one at full throttle has 8" cross ties buried in the ground 4' with the other 4' above the ground x 8' wide you put your front tire against. I have seen one that has a roll up bike chalk like what goes in a trailer welded to a 3/8 plate steel 8' wide x 4' long anchored in the asphault by 12 1" spikes. In Myrtle Beach at the bar Suck bang and blow, the burn out pit is made of 1" plywood and the tire burns out on the wood. I have seen burnout pits sponsered or even owned by bikes shops and tire shops with every known tire on site to replace the blown out ones. If ROT looked around they could find a tireshop or bike shop that would bring everything burnout pit, cage, safty chauks, plus a new tire selection and mechanic to change out the popped ones. Plus charge $5.00 a burnout to pay for the burnout cage employee. Remember the first thread, do a burnout on the Travis county fair grounds property you get your wrist band cut off. My recomendation is let the Bandito's run the pit and put a prospect in there to run it.
I believe this would be a big hit for the Rot , for the parade route, and for everyones saftey!!!!!

Does anyone know anyone on the ROT board who could seriously consider this?

I completely agree, there needs to be a dedicated place for the rich a$$ holes to burn their money up. But unless the security actually enforces the rules there will still be burn outs in the parade. With the crowd agging it on someone will do it.

the security people run over and cut his rot wrist band off and escort him off the property. But it is not only the rich as holes but the little crotch rocket thugs. I say save the money on the police and hire in a private security company to handle it.
Personally, I think burnout pits are boring as heck not to mention they stink to high heaven. I do not see what anyone would get out of sitting there watching somebody smoke a tires over and over and over. Don't want to hear ... a crotch rocket do burnout - the noise they make just grates on my nerves. But seeing - hearing - to some degree smelling - a cruiser do a small burnout on the roadway ... that I enjoy. (Hadn't thought about the rocks they might throw ... if I was behind them I might not enjoy it so much.) Up around our camp area they were soaking the roadway and all but begging people to do them .... with very little success ... but its not so crowded up around our area as it is down on the straightaway in Blue.
I don't know what ROT's policy is regarding burnouts. I'll check into that.

Spirit, when you come into gate 1 in the evening, you go a couple of hundred yrs then you come to the place where the parade makes a u-turn and lets call the next 250 yrs the burnout from hell place. Traffic goes to 1 lane and gets very conjested, bikes of all kinds do burnouts throwing rocks at people, this is the place if a bike ever gets away from someone doing a burnout it will hit no less than 40 people it is so conjested with no place to run. Once they clear this part of the route they turn right and head towards you.

Now that is a very good point. While there is nothing wrong with a good burn out done properly, you have to take into account who is doing the burn out. Just may be a drunken fool who decides this is a good time for my first burn out. "Let me see. I can do this. Hold front brake, full throttle, release clutch, looking good, lots of smoke, I'm cool, O'shit did I just drop my front brake and launch like a rocket!!!!!!" I too had pulled up to the parade route to watch em go past and found out I was just down from a burn out spot. So I backed up a little. About two burn outs later a guy almost loses it. The people next to me said good ideal and backed up too.

Kickshot that was a wise choice to move, it's not the 40 yr old veteran riders who do the burn outs it's the 18-21 yr olds on the crotch rockets that have me scarred sh%tless when they start drinking and doing the burnouts, and the really scary thing is when they are holding there clutch and tapping out there rev limiter. Talk about playing missile launch!!!!!!! I love coming to ROT, This yr was my 5th. What I see is a reciepe for a bad accident in the parade route when one of these kids either throws a rock in someone's eye or launches a bike. We watched a girl do a burnout saturday night at the rot and when she was done she missed the clutch for a second and layed it over as she did clutch it.

I looked up, and talked to some people that were at differant rally's this summer so far and about 1/2 the bigger rally's do have burn out pits with tire guys sponcering the pits with a mechanic on hand to do a quick on site change out.
