Clothes go in the closet or laundry basket (when the clean ones are gone put the dirty ones in it), alcohol goes under the bed, in the bathtub, oven or all of the above if need be.  Make sure you take you new toys on a test camp out and run the crap out of the AC to make sure all is well.  I had to take the Fun Finder back to the dealer after it's first time out for major AC problems, it tripped the breakers and fried the first time I turned it on.  The dealer was in no hurry to fix it, they had it 3 weeks.  TxJr's RV went back for some stuff to, they had his for months.  Dont mean to sound negitive, just be pre-paired for the service department to have it for a while if it needs repairs.  Better now that at ROT, lol.  Now women, go to your new RV and start decorating!!!

I know exactly what you mean about "testing" the new toy haulers out, we bought ours in feb. it's been in and out of the shop at least 4 times for fridge problems. Just got it back last week and now keep it plugged in and a thermometer in it that I can read from inside my house just to keep an eye on it for awhile. Ya never know what little problems might come up. As for the the alcolhol, it's loaded anywhere theres a slight hole plus the rear of the truck and in the the cart floor and rear end. Hope my truck will pull it all. LOL

Funny things those RV fridges... I Bought my Outlaw toy hauler used--it had been maintained by a "professional RV dealer" in Miami who also rent RVs out for a major rental company. First trip out, after fixing the anti-lock brakes (the pros had installed the wrong disc rotor) the fridge quit cooling on shore power. Switched it to gas which had worked well on the drive, and it cooled down for a while, only to quit again. RV park owner said to check the Dometic recalls by ser#...yep, the 'pros' had neglected to do the recall that, "may cause the unit to explode!" according to Dometic. RV dealer next door did the recall & checked it over. Turns out that little 'thingie' on a wire that slides up/down the fins in the top of the fridge had fallen off...it's the thermostat. Put it back on and moved the beer cans so as not to knock it off again! Oh yeah, also learned those fridges don't like to work unless they are level...and they take a half day sometimes to switch over fromgas to electric. That's why I have a second, 110v mini fridge in the garage section...works MUCH better n shorter walk from parade route!

Well we bought our raptor used as well have had it running full tilt for a week now. Plus I already have the extra 110 v fridge for the alcohol and will bring an ice chest I am sure. Lol. Plus I intend to take it out at least twice and put it through an entire service and inspection before ROT!!!!!

Ditto...we're using Daytona Bike Week as the checkout run in March! Sitting in the infield right at the 'chicane' turn for the races. If they only had a parade route!

I don't know for sure if anyone has checked for a recall on it yet but I will today for sure. It is funny that I think everyone I know who has a toy hauler also has a second fridge in back. That's where I keep all my beer cold. And for ROT... definately gonna need a couple ice chests as well.

Good one about the frig Rockett!!  Never owned a toy hauler but the Fun Finder is the 5th RV I have owned.  Elec. rod blew on the hot water heater (gas still worked), regulator for the propane went out, antena got stuck half way down, awning wouldnt go up one time (that was my fault for not lubing the the roller things).

I keep spare every thing in it now, 4 way in case of a flat, fuses, small fan, flashlight, spray can of luby stuff, small tool kit, keep my battery back up charged (the LP gas detector went off pulling it down the road one time because the battery was dead) , can of flat fix it stuff.  Seams like a lot of things to remember to keep in it (for the new RV owners) but ya dont want to NOT have them if some thing goes wrong while your camping.

Along with the spare fridge, I took my ROT partner's advice and got an ice maker, too. We do a couple NASCAR races where ice is $10/bag. These makers are about 18" cubes and turn out 8 - 10lbs an hour. Got mine at Tuesday Mornings on sale. Paid for itself already!

I am not sure if this is the proper place to ask these question, but here it goes. This will be my first trip to the ROT rally. I plan to ride my Harley from Ohio and camp at the Expo Center. If I want to go downtown and party, but leave my motorcycle at camp, is there a shuttle that runs downtown? I read somewhere that Austin provides free train rides. If this is so, what are the routes for the train and how frequent do they pickup at each location?

Thanks for any help provided.

P.S. I semi-retired in 2010, traded in my Super Glide for a big touring bike and headed to Sturgis for the first time in my life. I had such a great time riding there and meeting some great biker people that I thought I would give Austin a try this year based on what I hear about the great times people have had there.

Hello dnotestone,

You will love the ROT. I have been going there for the past 7 or so years (I have the advantage of living in Austin), and it is one of the best rallys I have been to.

I do not personaly know of any shuttles from the expo to down town, but there may be some. One thing I would suggest is to check out Spirit's "Meet & Greet", on Thursday night. Alot of us meet there to put a face with the names we talk to on line. Also if you are tent camping, hook up with the Shack Out Backers. We all love to party. Another thing to check out would be the midnight toast at the FUB (F%@$ing Ugly Bus). You will here about it at the meet & greet.

Ride Safe and when you get here we can have a few beers and swap riding stories.

A couple of years ago there was a tram that took every one to 6th street and back to the grounds.  Not sure if they are still doing that.

Ditch, the FUB isnt coming this year due to all the new rules.

Thanks for the info. I had an aunt and uncle who lived in Austin years ago until they died. I visited them during the summer when I was about 8 years old. My aunt liked cats, but not children. All I remember about my visit to Austin was that she made me stay outdoors all of the time. I was barefooted and my feet burned from the hot pavement on the sidewalks. Perhaps I was an irritating kid. I do look forward to revisiting Austin. I will have to look you up when I get there.

I am surprised that there would be no shuttle to take bikers downtown. I would think that the organizers of the event would provide a “designated driver” to help reduce DUIs and for safety purposes. The place I camped at when I went to Sturgis had a free shuttle service for its campers so we were not tempted to drink and drive.

You can always take a taxi, cheaper than a DWI.

The taxi drivers and pizza delivery drivers KNOW we are a hand full.  That's why they wont come to the ROT grounds, lol.  Take and bake pizza from Pappa Murphys would be good.  Bake it on the pit.
