Its a bit off-topic, but I couldnt think of more well rounded group to ask. We are beach camping with the toy hauler and golf cart this Memorial day weekend at Port A. I have never attempted this so I look forward to it. Can anyone offer advice that has camped on the beach? Like, where is the best place to setup camp, places to party, etc!! I know the ordinances regarding permits for the cart and beach camping so Im good there. Just need some inside info. Thanks in advance. ocho

It's best to pitch your tent out in the open so you get the breeze. You need the breeze at night to keep the mosquitos away. Port Aransas is pretty layed back, you can normally find live music at the "Back Porch". It's on the main drag coming off the ferry. Nowurchunkin

Check out The Gaff Bar on Beach St.. They have a band in the back in the evenings. Be sure to check out the oldest bar on the island, Shorty's at 805 Tarpon St.. Next door is the Flat's Lounge. Flat's has rock & roll bands starting at 9;30pm. Bartenders, Howie and Scotty will treat you right. $1 jello shots!

Just my opinion, but my wife and I have taken our RV to Port Aransas and we stayed in the State Park, located nearby.

I'm a big supporter of the TX State Parks and use them when available. It's basically located in Mustang Island which is probably 10 miles or so from the Ferry, but you can travel on the Park Road into town each day, or travel along the Beach, which is what we did every day. I didn't take my Polaris, but we used the Truck each day to travel up and down the Beach front.
It's not the prettiest State Park by any means, but it's functional and has Electricity, Water, etc. if needed.
And........it is alittle more secure than spending the night on the Beach.
Just my opinion.....that's all.

All great info. Thanks. Crazyhorse, I too am a big supporter of the TPWD. I am a member. However, were taking the golf cart and to travel the 10 miles or so would consume alot of the day. We are hoping to pull the toy hauler onto the beach near town so its easier to get around. And thanks to all for the bar suggestions. We'll try to hit them all!! Can I drop any names?

Beach camping is an affordable way to enjoy waterfront accommodations without paying for pricey hotels. If camping on the beach is allowed and if so, if there are any restrictions. These restrictions range from whether camp fires are permitted to where you can drive your vehicle.
