Trying to decide wether to camp or grab a hotel room.

Here's the situation,

First off this is my first time at R.O.T. I've been scourering the forum to gather any information that I can and reading everything in regards to camping at the rally.

There is a group of us that have pitched in to buy one of the club tents and my plan was to come in on Wednesday and set up my gear (which I still have to purchase as of yet) behind our club tent. Now I'm not sure if they will even have the club tents up on Wednesday or not. Everyone in my group that has been to R.O.T. before tells me I might not want to think about camping there due to everything that goes on along the parade route till the wee hours of the morining.Wink

Theres also one of our group that reserved a few rooms at the Motel 6 at 35 and Powell Ln. and has offered one of the rooms to me at a rate of $55 for Thurs night and $65 for Fri and Sat nights.

Personaly I would prefer to camp that way I'm not having to worry about leaving the rally and riding to the hotel late at night but would also like to have a nice air conditioned room to lay my beer filled head. Tongue out

Also grabing the room would mean not having to worry about buying all the gear that I will need, tent, sleepiing bag, etc. or trying to figure out how to load it all up on the Street Glide.

So any help from you R.O.T. Vet's to help me decide would be greatly appriceiated.

Preceate it.

Jim.

I'v stayed offsite - one time - and will stay on site from now on.  Now, admittedly, I have a comfy RV, but even if I didn't, I'd tent camp rather than hotel it.  It gets pretty cool at night.  I'm from the coast so to me Austin's humidity levels are so low that I actually get chilly at night.  During the daytime though .... its HOT!!!

I think you'd be cheating yourself by staying offsite. :)

It depends where you set up your tent, past 2 years we was behind paradise bar and we was off the parade route about 50 yds, you can still hear the bikes but it quiets down little after 1. The only problem that could be for you is that it can be hot and hard to sleep at night, but you don't have to worry about cops at night and get a ticket

Well yes loading stuff up on a bike can be a pain. I don't have to come far and I usually have a friend or two that will help bring my stuff.

The club tents will be up Wednesday.  We have had one every year and camped behind it.

You will probably be up until the wee hours anyway so noise from the parade isn't that big of a deal.

I think it was last year, Wednesday night, about 1:00am the party is starting to wind down when someone yells out, "You can't go to sleep, it's ROT!"  30 minutes later the only noise you could hear was snores.

Bring a fan, it is hot and you will want all the breeze you can get.

I hate having to stop drinking early so I am sober enough to ride, camping means I can party as little or as much as I want and not have to worry about getting home safe.

Whatever you decide, be safe, have fun and party!

Thanks for the info and suggestions everyone.

Aaron thanks for letting me know about the club tents being set up by Wednesday if you see someone there by themself looking a little lost it'll probably be me. Undecided

Seeing as the club tents will be moved over to the where the Paradise Bar was located (at least from what I've read) and thats in the area where all the S.O.B.'ers will be camping I think it's going to work our pretty good. Now I'm about 90% sure I'll be camping.

Being this is my first R.O.T. and first major rally I'm really looking forward to it and hope to meet a lot of the people I've been seeing here on the forum.

Where did you you read this?  I just checked the map and they haven't updated it to show the new PB location.

Thanks.

Also read here somewhere thought it was the above article where they mentioned something about putting up huricane fencing for privacy.

Oh, no they have said it was close to the PB site every year. I doubt they are moving them.

Well guess I've made up my mind about wether to camp or not.

Went to Academy earlier today and picked up a cheap two man tent, sleeping bag and air mattress for less then half of what it would have cost for the hotel room.

Planning on coming in on Wednesday at set up behind our club tent depending on how things are set up. If not then maybe I'll just join all the SOB'ers if they have room for one more tent.

Really looking forward to the rally. Less then two weeks to go.Laughing
