Over the past few weeks there has been much discussion about the new cart rules.  They started out one way and have morphed into another.  This is a summary of the new rules.

  • MOTORCYCLES HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY AT ALL TIMES!!!  NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • No trailers on the parade route.  When not being used for delvering camping supplies, hauling bikes, etc, trailers must be parked in trailer storage or at your campsite.
  • Carts are to stay to the left so bikes will have the right lane for their use.
  • No stopping on the roadway, pull over to the side if you are stopping.
  • No double decker carts.
  • All carts must be registered at checkin.  There is a $20 fee.
  • No UTVs or ATVs will be allowed

If you want to rent a cart, you will have to make your own arrangements and have it delivered to the rally.  There are guidelines for this in the official rules FAQs.

All the old threads on this topic are being locked because many of them contain erroneous information.  If you want to reference an old post, just copy and paste it into your post so your concern may be addressed.

Hopefully, this will make it all less confusing. :)

Thank you Spirit for keeping us updated on these new rules. Now that they have this finalized we can move on to bigger and better things. Now people can make up their minds knowing what is to be expected. I know I'm ready to get it going and see just how this new rule changes things either for the better or worse it's time to move on with it. And can't wait to have my new jello shots tried and tested by the pros of ROT partyers. LOL

We had a blast staying on-site for the first time last year instead of downtown in a condo like usual. We enjoyed cruising safely around the parade route on the little ATV (much smaller than a Golf Cart) and not having to worry about riding back downtown after the parade started dying down. The parade route was the reason we even bought wrist bands in the earlier years. But....we certainly wont be wasting money on a Golf Cart that won't do shit for our everyday use at our lake lot. Soooo, we will be walking to get to/from our RV space or wearing roller skates or some stupid shit like that cuz there's no freaking way we are going to get our bikes out on the parade route this year....be it all bikes or a combination of vehicles. Even if the damned route is completely EMPTY we wont be riding our bikes around it....Our little way of protesting these stupid new rules that are not only unfair and discriminatory, they will fail to prevent what people are complaining about. As for injuries/damage from use of an ATV/UTV, I'm sure some has occurred just as injury/damage and even death occurs every year from use of other motorized machinery...i.e. motorcycles. The first year I went to ROT, I watched some drunk dude do a burn out and lose control of his bike into a row of other bikes and people. I'm sure this happens EVERY YEAR! The next year, I watched a stupid dude drop his lady off the back of his bike doing a wheelie. Again a yearly occurrence I'm sure. The following year a drunk dude drivng a van parked near the paradise bar decided to leave & ran over a couple friends of mine who were standing on the grass near the parade route and I heard about a guy who lost control of his bike at the end of the lime lot turn around because he was going too fast! Somehow I think these incidents had absolutely nothing to do with the use of an ATV/UTV to ride safely around on but everything to do with drunk people acting stupid... a problem not likely to stop with the ban on the ATV/UTV. The machine is not the problem, the driver is....increase the age limit for attendees to 21 & you will eliminate some of the foolishness...but you will never eliminate it all. I do agree with the ban on any vehicle pulling a trailer around the route. Plan more exits from the parade route that lead to the other camp grounds and those who don't want to be in the congestion won't have to be. Oh but wait...that would require a few less RV spots along the route right? Who said this wasn't about money? It's ALWAYS about money or the rally wouldn't even be allowed to happen in the first place! Bounty

I totally agree with the age limit being moved up to 21! I agree with all you stated here Bounty. COMMON SENSE!!! That seems to be lacking with the new rules and regulations. All of this will sure help the BAR Rally out!

I'm do glad the military don't make their age limit 21 and up. When asking to change the age limit think about all those poor young soldiers who lost their lives for your rights. If you ask me, if they can risk their lives to save mine they deserve the same considerations I get!

So...make the entrance requirement "21 and older; or anyone with a valid ID from any branch of the uniformed services.". That would make ROT a pseudo recruiting tool, and with two different colored wrist bands, bar staff wouldn't have to check IDs. AND folks would have a way to know/thank our troops by just looking at the band. Rockett (30-yr USAF retired)

With all that has been going on over this cart B.S. I have over looked one thing. That is the fact that some people do care about the other people that attend the rally. Despite the fact that I am still not going. I would like to thank Spirit for all she has done on the message boards and at her meet and greets. I will truely miss the party at their camp site. So to that end I say THANK YOU SPIRIT AND TIM.

Aw, thanks Kickshot - and you're welcome.  I sure wish ya'll would reconsider.  Its gonna be real weird not having friends I'm used to seeing not be there.  But, as you know, I fully understand your reasoning.  Maybe in 2013, things will be different.  Hope to see you at other rallies....and stay online!  You don't have to attend to post with us.  :D

I would like some clarification on what they consider a cart?      It states no UTV/ATV    so does that mean if I pay 20.00 I can have a motorized bar stool?   what about a go cart?

RocketIII I love the idea for the differnet colored wrist bands for the military no matter what the age limit is!!!  Not sure if I remember this right... but I think I rememeber us getting a different salute at the gate upon entering the base after my Dad retired (3 years Army and 20 + yrs USAF retired).

Now that's a great idea Rocket.  To be able to see the wristband colors and know, would be perfect for our military men and women.

i have already renewed my rv space and i have a golf cart,im happy with the final results of the cart fiasco but i still say that this will put more drunks on two wheels and its an invitation for accidents, at least with all the atv/utv's and trailers, most of the drunks were on them and being chaufered, now if they want to get away from their campsites and see the whole party going on they will jump on two wheels, not a good thing but i am willing to give this year a chance and see what happens as i love the ROT rally! i think that either the parade route will be a ghost town or filled with idiots on two wheels

We are assuming drunks will ride 2 wheels.  If groups of 10 used to bring one cart and a trailer, they may bring 3 carts instead and still stay off the bikes.  Or a cart and motorized coolers.  Or a couple of minibikes.  Just because they can't have a trailer doesn't mean automatically they will get on a motorcycle.   Transportation may be more creative than we've ever seen with people trying to circumvent the no trailer/utv/atv rules.  Could get interesting!  :D

I do believe there are to many atv and four wheelers but i dont watch the parade to see a bunch of guy on motorcycles if that what they want so be it. i would like to see slower speeds more women looking for beads. i have a motorcycle and dont want to see a bunch of guys on motorcycles riding around. i guess i just get more sleep or find where the women go.
